The Doctor of the Night

Meet Dr. Noapte, a distinguished and highly respected vampire lycanthropologist, and director of the Draculord Plasma Nocturnal Institute of Vampire Advancement’s, Department of Lycanthropology.

Proud of his vampire heritage, Dr. Noapte is famous for his scholarly work on werewolves, designing prosthetic fangs, growing werewolf hair in a lab, and various top-secret projects. His philosophy is simple: the more knowledge they have of werewolves, the better equipped society is to fight them and end the threat once and for all.

During the war, Dr. Noapte served as King Dracula’s key advisor on werewolves, playing a vital role in the Oradea counteroffensive, which ended the werewolf stronghold over Transylvania. Bordering giant territory, the area was especially treacherous and demanded the highest level of intelligence. To provide the necessary information on the Oradea pack and their giant allies, Dr. Noapte insisted the king grant him eternal immunity and name him his successor. After hours of negotiations, they settled on Dr. Noapte becoming his successor.

As the king’s successor, Dr. Noapte could pardon himself the moment he took the throne, negating the need for eternal immunity. However, according to The Nocturnal Order, only King Dracula could provide eternal immunity.

One night during a raging storm, King Dracula simply vanished! Nobody knew where he went or why he would leave his subjects at such a vulnerable time in history. Many blamed Dr. Noapte for the king’s disappearance; others believed he knew where the king was. The doctor and his wife were the envy of everyone in vampire society, models to all of higher social class. Many obsessed over the couple’s every move, taking their cues from their glamorous and posh lifestyle.

Despite the success of The Great Mortal War, Dr. Noapte theorised that werewolves might live among vampires in disguise. He believed a hybrid pack survived in a secret cave built during the war by the Werewolf Forces during the occupation of Brasov.

Dr. Noapte thought tunnels led from the cave to the city, allowing werewolves to access the city and shapeshift into vampires. The Brothers Dracula were enraged by this claim. Any hint that werewolves might be lurking among them could sew doubt and suspicion among citizens, leading to chaos. To prevent further erosion of their power, they needed to silence Dr. Noapte.

The brothers walked a fine line, they had to show deference to their father, but at the same time lay the groundwork for an eventual full seizure of the throne. The brothers spent thousands of moon cycles living in exile along the eastern banks of the Great Lake of Bessarabia, once the Dniester River, now a lake the size of an ocean. At a young age, they led a small rebellion against their father, but the act of rebellion quickly ended and the brothers excommunicated from society and resettled in Bessarabia to work as the personal servants to Vampire Prince Draven.

One full moon night, they escaped and drained every drop of blood from the prince, selling the valuable blue blood at blood markets to accumulate great wealth and rise to power. Their return was viewed with suspicion. Everyone loved King Dracula, making it difficult to keep the population satisfied and maintain the narrative that the king’s return was imminent. They left the throne empty, proclaiming their father “King in Absence” to buy time. With no clear law for the king’s disappearance, they immediately proclaimed Vampire Draconian Law to suppress dissent.

To Dr. Noapte and his wife Lupo, vampire values were not crucial; social privilege in Râșnov was. Many envied their lives, sparking endless gossip and fascination. When not working on werewolf research, Dr. Noapte was the Commissioner of Vampire Skullball, a sport he adored and played alongside Luminita’s father, German. Together, they were the Pairs Skullball Champions for 108 years.

His wife, Lupoaica, or Lupo for short, was the social director of The Vampiress Miserable Hour Social Club. Miserable Hour was when female vampires gathered to drink blood martinis, complain, and discuss their biting lives. Being a Bloodette and the director of Transylvania’s most secretive social club was an honor. The secret society never divulged its full name, going by the acronym VMHSC. Only members knew what it stood for, sworn to secrecy. Even Dr. Noapte didn’t know. The good times unfortunately were about to come to an end. The brothers’ grip on power was more secure than ever, they quickly moved to implement Draconian Blood Law, an obscure law last used during the latter days of DracuLord. The new law meant only one thing: their days as glamorous socialites were about to come to an end.

The Brothers addressed their subjects at Bran Castle:

“Dearest Vampires, we take no satisfaction about the news we will deliver. Our better news about our father. Despite the best vampire hunters, we are no closer tonight than we were the night he left us. Thus, to bring the values our father preached and in an effort to bring our father back, we determined Draconian Blood Law is our best tool to bring our society back to what it was when our father was created by DracuLord. I now turn to my brother Constantine, who shall explain the new rules of our society.”

Constantine, a tall and handsome vampire, always was the beta to his brother. He was charming, smooth and cunning, but he was no match for his brother, a force of darkness determined to rule all of Transylvania himself.

He then announced a curfew: “No vampire should be out on the streets during the day. This is a time to be with our families and reconnect with who we are! Thus, effective immediately, citizens can only be out one hour after dusk and must be in two hours before dawn. Violation of the law, shall deem one an agent of the werewolves. There are no exceptions, we must do all we can to maintain our society!”

Effective immediately, social activities are illegal! This is not a time to have fun. Thus: any sports, social clubs, or other activities deemed inappropriate shall cease immediately. Every citizen must attend classes at their local Nocturnal House (the place of worship for DracuLord) to better understand our race’s complex inner workings! We must learn who we are! To prove one’s devotion to the Vampire Dream, after each course, one must pass an exam to assess their devotion to the “dream”. If one passes, they will be a “Blood Elite,” which will entitle them to special privileges. We must emphasize that during serious times like these, biting of any kind is banned. We need to maintain our purity and our peace! We all need to make sacrifices.

Furthermore, any talk about or investigation of werewolves shall be deemed as an act of treason. The laws are meant to empower us, not divide us! Only then can we hope that our Father shall return once our society has been cleaned up!
